Well, I have finally come home for a few hours and now have the chance to update. Sofia is doing GREAT! Her vent frequency is at 5 and her O2 is at 23. This means that the vent is only giving
her 5 breaths per minute and she is doing the rest herself. The O2 only needs to go down to 21 because that is what we breathe. So I think sometime in the next few days Ivan and I are going to walk into the NICU and get a big surprise and Sofia will no longer be on a vent. We are pretty excited!

So I think sometime in the next few days Ivan and I are going to walk into the NICU and get a big surprise and Sofia will no longer be on a vent. We are pretty excited! Last night we got a copy of the Surgeon's Report from her repair surgery. We haven't actually had a chance to talk with him, so we weren't sure of the details until now. So here they are... Sofia's stomach, intestines, spleen and liver were all up in her chest. Fortunately she does have a good amount of lung tissue and had enough diaphram that they were able to just suture it up rather than having to use a patch. The incision is very thin and doesn't look like it will leave much of a scar. Yesterday morning we got a call that they were going to have to do another surgery to place a central line in Sofie's chest. We had already
signed a consent form for this to be done the day as the repair surgery, but for some reason they didn't do it. So, the Dr had tried 2 different times to get a line herself just like they would a normal IV, but was not successful. So, they had to do it surgically yesterday. This time they actually took her to the OR to do the surgery. It only took about 30 minutes. When they brought Sofia back she was wide awake! This little girl never wants to sleep! They are trying to wean her off the Fetanyl which is the pain medication and a sedative, so she is awake quite a bit. Ivan and I always get her to sleep and then she wakes right back up, it is like a game for her! We love to see her big beautiful eyes, though!

Keep up the fight Audrey! They were able to wean her off one of the blood pressure meds today. Jenn also got to hold Audrey while they changed out her linens. I am so happy for them. Please keep both Audrey and Jackson in your prayers. One day Kimberly, Jenn and I will be able to get are three little miracles together.
Today, I was able to check my email for the first time in a while and I received an email from someone I feel I can call a new friend. This wonderful women found a link to Soifa's blog from Drew's and she emailed to say that she would love to make a quilt for Sofia and that she would like to start a quilting organization for CDH Babies. I feel so honored to have her make a quilt for Sofia's Nursery. I also wanted to tell any of you that are quilters or who know quilters that would be interested in joining this amazing group to let me know and I can get you in contact with her. Well, I don't know when I will have the chance to update myself, but my Mom will continue to keep you all posted. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers and please keep them coming cause the fight is not over yet! Please keep all CDH babies in your prayers. God Bless
Love,
Catherine

I'm so glad to hear how well Sofia is doing! I'll have to post pictures of the quilt these wonderful women made for me in memory of Drew. There are so many truly wonderful, caring people out there!
I hope that you're taking care of yourself, I know how exhausting this process can be. Give Sofia a kiss from us--she's got Drew looking down on her!

Lots of love,

I am so thrilled with Sofia's progress. I just know she'll be completely off of the vent really soon! When I saw those numbers I couldn't believe it. It's amazing how quickly she is healing. She sure is tough and has one tough Mommy! I know our babies won't get to meet each other, but I'd love to meet your little girl one day and tell her what an inspiration she is to me. Lots of love and prayers for you and your family.
