I am sorry that it has been another long period of time since I last posted. A lot has happened since my last post, but I am sure you all kinda figured that since it has almost been a month!
Well, to start Sofia has been to the ER 3 times this week! On Wednesday, Sofia woke up from her nap and seemed like her normal self I got her dressed and we left to got to the store with my Mom. We got to the store and my Mom said to me that she thought that Sofie was cold casue she thinks she is shivering. So I put socks on her and I had a sweater in her bag and I put that on her too. It was in the 90's outside! We put a blanket over her, too. I walked away from them to go and return some stuff and when I found them again my Mom said that she thinks that she was still shivering and told me to hold her to see. When I held Sofie she just laid her head on me and that is not like her at all. She is a very, well to put it nicely, curious baby! About 10 minutes later she started burning up. We left and while my Mom was putting her in her car seat I tried to get ahold of her doctor so we could go straight there. They kept putting me on hold. Well, Sofia shut her eyes and wouldn't open them. She was moaning and thrashing her head back and forth. I decided to go to the emergency room on base cause it was closer than any of the children's hospitals. Sofie startting crying at the gate of the base. We got there and she finally opened her eyes while we were checking in. They took her temp and it was 102.9. They brought us Motrin and left us in the waiting room. Well, we were there for six and a half hours and Sofia was never seen. Her fever went away with the Motrin and since I ran out of formula and diapers and the hospital said they didn't have any we left. I planned on taking her in to her doctor in the morning. She was fine after the Motrin and seemed like herself. She woke up at 2:30am for a bottle and was fine. Then at 7am she woke up crying and I knew something was wrong cause she never cries when she wakes up, she normally just plays. When I got to her she was burning up and moaning. I made her a bottle cause I didn't want go give her anything on an empty stomach. I then checked her temp and it was 103.6. She was alert and wanted the rest of her bottle. So I gave it to her and then we drove to her doctors office cause I knew they opened at 8am. I didn't bother calling cause I didn't want to be put on hold. We got there and found out that her doctor was on vacation and saw another. He said that there was nothing wrong with her throat or her ears and that it was possibly a bladder infection or a UTI. He sent us to the hospital for labs. We left and went home. She seemed fine the rest of the day until about 9pm she starting warming up again. Her temp was 105.4 and she was grunting. We went straight to the ER at the hospital where she had labs done. When we were in triage and she threw up all over me! I had to wear a hospital gown the rest of the stay and home. That was the only time she has thrown up, though. We were dishcharged at 3am and they said that she has an upper respitory infection and a viral infection. This morning at 6:30 am she woke up moaning and wouldn't open her eyes again and she was shivering for about 30 minutes. I just held her and gave her Motrin until the fever broke and she could fall asleep comfortably. She has only had little fevers throughout the day today, but I have been giving her Motrin and Tylenol to keep them that way.
I also found out that Sofia has an umblical hernia. I haven't done much research on it so I am still not quite sure what that means. I just know it isn't anything that the doctors were immediately concerned about. Sofie also got her RSV shot las Friday and will receive it once a month until April. THe Pulmonologist wants to doa sleep study on her next month. Other than that he said she looks great! We go in for her 6 month check up this coming Wednesday.
Sofia is sitting up and rolling over, and even starting to get up on her knees. I am so happy, but sad at the same time that she is growing so fast! She is now eating the Number 2 baby foods and seems to love them!
Last week, we lost Sofia's Great-Great Auntie Kitty. Her funeral was yesterday and we were told that her casket was pulled by a horse drawn carriage. Auntie Kitty lived in England. We are hoping to take Sofia to England next year to meet the rest of her family. We are also hoping that some of them will make it here for Sofia's first Birthday!
Well, I am going to go for now to take care of my little one! I will write more soon. Thanks to all who continue to read. Please keep Sofia and all CDH babies in your prayers.
Love, Catherine
