My appointment with my OB yesterday went well. He said that I am having more contractions than usual because of the extra amniotic fluid. I don't know if I have said this before, but CDH babies eventually stop swallowing and regulating the amniotic fluid which causes it to increase. My AFI has been measuring over 30 for the past 3 weeks, but as of Monday dropped down to 26. That is still more than normal, though. The reason this can be a problem is because it can cause me to go into pre-term labor. We really need to make it through 37 weeks so that Sofia doesn't suffer from premature lungs on top of underdeveloped lungs. Other than that he did double my dosage of the Iron supplement that he put me on 3 weeks ago. I guess my Iron is lower than what we thought. He checked it once and put me on them and then checked it again and increased my dosage to 2 a day. Sofia is still doing great, I am finally able to feel whether it is a knee, elbow, foot, or hand that she is moving. She also pushes her little bum out all the time. Well, it is either pushed out or up against my ribs which is so uncomfortable. When I touch it she moves away though!
Also, I have added another link to Baby Leah. Leah is a little over 7 months old now and is a CDH survivor. Leah's CDH wasn't diagnosed before birth, though. The docs noticed something was wrong and thought it was several other things before they finally realized it was CDH. She then had to be transfered to another hospital. She is home now and seems to be doing great. She is very beautiful, too!
Tomorrow, Friday, March 24, they will be doing the diaphram repair surgery on Baby Avery. So, please say a special prayer for her. She will also be a week old tomorrow!
Well, that is it for now. I will keep updating as needed. Also, once I am in the hospital my Mom will be doing the updating until Ivan or I can get to a computer. So, we will keep you posted. Thanks for reading and thank you for keeping Sofia and all CDH babies in your prayers.
Love, Catherine
